” Milwaukee-based Manpower, a global staffinhg firm, tracked the top 10 most difficult jobs for U.S. employersd to fill in 2009. They are: engineers, skilled/manual trades, teachers, sales technicians, delivery and short-haul drivers, information technology, laborers, machinist/machine Many of these careersd are within the reach of a community collegw graduate and will be made even more accessible through thegrant program, according to Duncan. The granyt application will be announced online Thursday in the Federall Register andpublished Friday. Applications will be due on Aug. 7.
The Departmenyt of Education anticipates awarding approximately 28 grantsby mid-September with projecta beginning on or about Oct. 1. The estimatedd range of the grant awardsis $300,000-$750,000 over a three-yeard period. The grants will provid seed funding for model programs in community collegee that help adults develop the skillas they need to succeed in a new The programs could provide services such as academic andcareer counseling, and help with the registratiom process. They also could remove financial constraints for adults returningto school, including child care, and text books. Programs must be sustainable beyondthe three-yea r grant period.
